Day One: Why I’m Starting the 75 Hard Challenge

Today, I’m beginning something bold, something that’s part physical, part mental, and fully transformational.

It’s called 75 Hard.

I didn’t create it, and won't be the first to try it! According to Google, more than a million people have given it a shot. Over the past year, I’ve noticed at least a dozen friends, acquaintances, and people I follow on Instagram taking a swing at it, with all sorts of results!

What is 75 Hard?

75 Hard is more than a fitness challenge. It’s a 75-day mental toughness program created by Andy Frisella. It’s designed to build discipline, resilience, and next-level consistency across every area of life.

The rules are simple but non-negotiable:

  • Follow a diet (no cheat meals, no alcohol)

  • Do two 45-minute workouts a day (one must be outside)

  • Drink 4 litres (1 gallon) of water daily

  • Read 10 pages of a non-fiction book

  • Take a daily progress photo

  • Do it every day for 75 days—no compromises

Miss one rule? You start over at Day 1.

Why I’m Doing This

I’m doing this to unlock a new level of energy and focus. Having moved back to Sydney in late October last year after trying digital nomading for a couple of years, I am feeling bit stale, like I am coasting along, which, as a Coach, is not where you want to be.

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t not succeeding, but for the last three months, there’s been a feeling of “is this it” brewing inside.

Today, Wednesday, 14th May, is the start of a reset.

I returned to Sydney yesterday, having been in London for two weeks. I surprised my Dad for his 76th birthday and my sister for hers, and while there, I decided to stop procrastinating and jump on the Hard 75 bandwagon to see if it works for me. The trip ended with a fun, boozy weekend with friends from University, and I am ready to change gears.

I have never tried anything this disciplined for such a long period before; the closest comparison would be a two-week yoga, colonic, and juice cleanse in Thailand, which will be nothing like this, as that involved sunbathing and watching lots of movies.

I’ve been doing the inner work for years, therapy for myself, personal trainer, 10,000 steps, coaching others, and exploring my strengths and values, but I’ve hit a moment, and I know it’s time to back all that insight with bold, daily action.

  • I want to feel strong, clear, and laser-focused for myself and my coaching clients.

  • I want to start building the business I’ve been dreaming about (not coaching, that will remain in play until I retire, I know it, because I love it - but there is a buried appetite, time and space to do more).

  • I want NOT to be floating around 90kg with a bit of belly as I have been for the last 5 years.

I also might want to develop a new program that combines the Strengths Profile work that my coaching focuses on with the 75 Hard mindset—I'm not sure what that looks like yet, but I’m starting that process by living it.

In addition to food, movement, and mindset work, I’ll also be taking supplements to support energy, focus, and overall well-being, including:

  • L-Theanine 250mg

  • Shilajit 200mg

  • Manuka Honey +263 680mg

  • Ashwagandha 300mg

  • Siberian Ginseng drops 4.5ml

  • Psyllium Husk 3000mg

This isn’t about hacks; it’s about support. The fundamental transformation is in showing up every day without excuses.

On Day 1, I’m redoing my Strengths Profile assessment - will share more in tomorrow’s post.

I want to track how my strengths evolve, show up, and shift over the next 75 days.

Watch this space. I’ll be sharing my journey, insights, and a few struggles along the way, I am sure.

If you've ever considered doing 75 Hard or are just curious about what happens when structure meets self-awareness, I’d love for you to follow along.

The diet is already giving me anxiety, and I’ve only had breakfast so far. For the record, 65g of organic oats made with water, one teaspoon of cinnamon, one teaspoon of stevia, and one cup of frozen berries = around 85 total calories.

As a big foodie, former restaurant owner/Chef, and lover of bread, butter, pasta, and a glass or two of wine, the diet part is, at a surface level, the part I am least looking forward to. However, the challenge of staying in a calorie deficit and creating some delicious but super healthy new recipes is reluctantly exciting when I dig deeper.

Let’s see what happens when we stop holding back.
